Ixora coccinea (West Indian Jasmine) or jungle flame (Chethi) is a species of ever green flowering plant. It is a common flowering shrub native to Kerala, Southern India.

It has become one of the most popular flowering shrubs in Kerala home gardens. In Kerala, the plant is locally known as ‘Chethi’ and the flower is ‘Chethi Poovu’ (Poovu means Flower)

Ixora coccinea ‘Jacqueline’ has many common names including Jungle Flame, Jungle Geranium, Flame of the Woods, Needle Flower, and West Indian-Jasmine

West Indian Jasmine Flower – Significance

The flowers, leaves, roots, and the stem are used to treat various ailments in the Indian traditional system of medicine, the Ayurveda , and in various folk medicines. The fruits, when fully ripe, are used as a dietary source.

  2. Skin Disease treatment : Flower boil with coconut oil used as medicine to cure Skin Disease

  3. Smooth menstruation : Crush flowers of West Indian Jasmine to make paste. Add 1 table spoon flower paste in cow milk and have it twice a day for menstrual health

  4. Cure fever : Have 20 ml Water, boiled with flower once in a day to cure fever.
